Target Information

Calnexin, also known as IP90, p88, and p90, is an approximately 90 kDa integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Many resident ER proteins act as molecular chaperones and assist in the proper folding and assembly of polypeptides into multisubunit proteins.
Calnexin associates with MHC class I heavy chains, partial complexes of the T cell receptor, and B cell membrane immunoglobulin, but not with completed receptor complexes.
It functions as a chaperone that retains incompletely or improperly folded proteins in the ER.
Soluble ER resident proteins typically have a KDEL sequence for retention, whereas integral membrane proteins like calnexin lack KDEL but have positively charged cytosolic residues ensuring ER localization.
Calnexin structure includes:

• ER luminal domain: 461 amino acids
• Transmembrane segment: 22 amino acids
• Cytoplasmic tail: 89 amino acids
