Target Information
TRPM2 belongs to the ion transport protein family which includes Sodium, Potassium, and Calcium ion channels. This family is characterized by proteins possessing six transmembrane helices in which the last two helices flank a loop determining ion selectivity.
TRPM2 is activated by oxidative stress and confers susceptibility to cell death. It is a calcium-permeable cation channel regulated by free intracellular ADP-ribose.
Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of the TRPM2 gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known.
