Labeled calcium indicators are molecules that exhibit an increase in fluorescence upon binding Ca²⁺. They are widely used in calcium signaling investigations, including:

• Measuring intracellular Ca²⁺ levels
• Monitoring Ca²⁺ influx and release
• Multiphoton excitation imaging of Ca²⁺ in living tissues

Cells can be loaded with the AM ester forms of these indicators by adding the dissolved reagent directly to cultured cells. The fluorescence signal is typically measured using fluorescence microscopy, microplate assays, or flow cytometry.
