Target Information

STK25 (YSK1) is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the GCK family of kinases. It acts as an upstream regulator of MAP kinase signaling pathways. Protein kinases transfer phosphate groups from ATP to substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction in eukaryotic cells. They regulate processes such as metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family includes over 500 gene products and is classified into 8 major groups based on catalytic domain sequence comparison. The STE group (homologs of yeast Sterile 7, 11, 20 kinases) consists of 50 kinases related to MAPK cascade families (Ste7/MAP2K, Ste11/MAP3K, and Ste20/MAP4K). MAP kinase cascades are best characterized in the yeast pheromone response pathway, where pheromones activate surface receptors and trigger MAPK signaling.
