Target Information

NF-kappa-B inhibitor-like protein 1 (NFKBIL1), also named Ikb like and IkbL1, is a 381 amino acid member of the inhibitor of NF-kappaB (IkappaB) family of proteins. NFKBIL1 contains two ANK repeats and is expressed in the rheumatoid synovial lining and sub-lining layers and co-localized in CD68+ and CD3+, but not Factor VIII+ cells. Defects in NFKBIL1 expression are associated with susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a systemic inflammatory disease with autoimmune features affecting the joints. RA is characterized by inflammatory changes in the synovial membranes and articular structures, widespread fibrinoid degeneration of collagen fibers in mesenchymal tissues, and by atrophy and rarefaction of bony structures.
