Target Information
Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome, spanning about 260 million base pairs and comprising approximately 8% of the human genome. It contains around 3,000 genes, many of which are associated with various diseases. Examples include:
- Hutchinson-Gilford progeria, linked to the LMNA gene (lamin A)
- Familial adenomatous polyposis, associated with the MUTYH gene
- Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, and Usher syndrome, all connected to chromosome 1
- Schizophrenia, linked to a breakpoint in 1q disrupting the DISC1 gene
- Cancers, including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma, and multiple myeloma
