Target Information
This gene encodes a protein that is a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex found in the nucleus of human cells. It exhibits broad expression and is strongly expressed in many tissues. It belongs to a small gene family encoding proteins involved in transcriptional regulation, either directly or indirectly through chromatin remodeling.
MTA2 is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. Both proteins share domains including two DNA-binding domains, a dimerization domain, and a domain found in DNA methyltransferases. One known target of MTA2 is p53; deacetylation of p53 correlates with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, linking MTA2 to metastasis.
