Target Information
MEI1 (Meiosis inhibitor protein 1), also known as Meiosis defective protein 1, is a 1274 amino acid protein required for the formation of genetically programmed double-strand breaks, the first step in meiosis initiation. It is predominantly expressed in testis, and defects in the MEI1 gene are associated with male infertility. Genetic variation in MEI1 may predispose certain populations to infertility by meiotic arrest. Human MEI1 shares 79% sequence similarity with its mouse homolog, and seven isoforms are produced via alternative splicing.
