Target Information
Gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) regulates various functions of the gastrointestinal and central nervous systems, including hormone release, smooth muscle contraction, and epithelial proliferation. GRP acts as a potent mitogen for neoplastic tissues through the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR), a glycosylated 7-transmembrane G-protein coupled receptor that activates the phospholipase C signaling pathway. GRPR is aberrantly expressed in cancers such as lung, colon, and prostate. A balanced translocation between chromosome 8 and X involving the GRPR gene has been observed in a patient with autism and multiple exostoses.
