Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) that associates with the Golgi apparatus and regulates the early secretory pathway of proteins. It promotes hydrolysis of ADP-ribosylation factor 1 (ARF1)-bound GTP, enabling coat protein dissociation from Golgi-derived membranes and vesicles—an essential step before vesicle fusion with target compartments. The activity is phospholipid-sensitive. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist. This gene was formerly known as ARFGAP1, now assigned to a related but distinct gene.
