Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein (~65–67 kDa) that constitutes about half of the blood serum protein. Human serum albumin (HAS) is the most abundant protein in human plasma and has a serum half-life of ~20 days. It acts as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Synthesized in the liver as pre-pro-albumin, it undergoes N-terminal peptide removal before secretion. Albumin binds water, Ca²⁺, Na⁺, K⁺, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and drugs, and plays a key role in regulating blood colloidal osmotic pressure.
