Transaldolase 1은 비산화적 펜토스 인산 경로의 핵심 효소로, 핵산 합성을 위한 ribose-5-phosphate와 지질 생합성을 위한 NADPH를 제공합니다. 이 경로는 또한 glutathione을 환원 상태로 유지하여 산소 라디칼로부터 세포를 보호합니다.
Transaldolase 1의 기능적 유전자는 염색체 11에 위치하며, 염색체 1에 위유전자가 존재합니다. 이 유전자는 다발성 경화증과 관련이 있는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
