Target Information
TSPAN7 is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family), consisting of cell-surface proteins with four hydrophobic domains. These proteins mediate signal transduction events involved in cell development, activation, growth, and motility.
TSPAN7 encodes a cell surface glycoprotein that may regulate neurite outgrowth and forms complexes with integrins.
Mutations in this gene are associated with X-linked mental retardation and neuropsychiatric diseases such as Huntington's chorea, fragile X syndrome, and myotonic dystrophy.
