Target Information

The PTGES2 gene encodes the enzyme prostaglandin E synthase 2 (PTGES2), which catalyzes the biosynthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) from arachidonic acid. This enzyme functions downstream of the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway and interacts with both COX-1 and COX-2.
PTGES2 plays a key role in inflammation, fever generation, and pain signaling by regulating PGE2 levels. It is a membrane-associated protein distinct from other prostaglandin synthases due to its specific regulatory properties and functional roles in immune and vascular signaling pathways.
