Target Information
The OTUB1 gene encodes a member of the OTU superfamily of predicted cysteine proteases. The protein acts as a specific ubiquitin iso-peptidase, cleaving ubiquitin from branched poly-ubiquitin chains but not from ubiquitinated substrates. It interacts with other ubiquitin proteases and E3 ligases that regulate cytokine gene transcription in the immune system. OTUB1 is proposed to function in specific ubiquitin-dependent pathways, potentially providing an editing function for polyubiquitin chain growth. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants.
