Cerebellin (CER)은 원래 쥐의 소뇌에서 분리된 헥사데카펩타이드로, Cerebellin 1(Cbln1)이라 불리는 더 큰 전구체에서 유래합니다. Cerebellin 1, 2(Cbln2), 3(Cbln3), 4(Cbln4)는 C1q 단백질 계열 내의 precerebellin 하위군을 구성합니다. Cerebellin 계열 단백질들은 다양한 뇌 영역에서 시냅스 발달과 시냅스 가소성의 신경 간 조절자로 작용합니다. Cerebellin과 그 대사체 des-Ser(1)Cer는 부신을 포함한 여러 비소뇌 조직에서도 발현됩니다. Cerebellin 1, 2, 3은 동종 및 이종 복합체를 형성하여 서로의 분해 및 분비에 영향을 미칩니다. Cerebellin 3은 동종 복합체를 형성할 수 없으며, Cerebellin 1과의 이종 복합체 형성을 통해서만 분비됩니다. Cerebellin 농도가 감소된 것은 olivopontocerebellar atrophy(OPCA) 및 Shy-Drager 증후군 환자의 뇌에서 관찰되어, 이러한 질환의 병태생리에 Cerebellin이 관여할 가능성을 시사합니다.
