Target Information
Mesothelin is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored, cell-surface glycoprotein predominantly secreted by mesothelial cells. It is expressed at low levels in normal pleural, pericardial, and peritoneal mesothelial cells but is highly expressed in mesotheliomas, ovarian cystadenocarcinomas, and pancreatic adenocarcinomas.
Proteolytic cleavage of Mesothelin produces a soluble fragment known as megakaryocyte potentiating factor (MPF), which may regulate megakaryocyte proliferation and platelet production. Elevated expression of Mesothelin and MPF in various cancers suggests their roles in tumorigenesis, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and metastasis.
