Target Information

STAU1 is a member of the double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-binding protein family, involved in transport and localization of mRNAs to specific subcellular compartments. These proteins contain multiple dsRNA-binding domains essential for binding RNAs with double-stranded secondary structures.
Human STAU1 also contains a microtubule-binding domain similar to microtubule-associated protein 1B and binds tubulin. It is present in the cytoplasm associated with the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER), suggesting a role in mRNA transport via the microtubule network to the RER.
STAU1 interacts with influenza ribonucleoproteins NS1, NP, and PA, and is required for efficient viral replication.
