Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide binding proteins, including R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies, exhibit 30–60% homology with Ras p21. Rab proteins play important roles in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport. They are involved in the movement of carrier vesicles between the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex, and secretory vesicles. Evidence also suggests Rab proteins may direct exocytosis from secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane, as seen in yeast SEC4 protein, which shares 40% homology with Rab proteins.
