This antibody is predicted to react with bovine, mouse, porcine, and rat based on sequence homology.

Target Information

Smad4 is encoded by the Smad4 gene located on chromosome 18 in humans. Also known as Smad family member 4, Sma- and Mad-related protein 4, or Mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4.
Smad4 contains N-terminal MH1 and C-terminal MH2 domains involved in DNA binding and protein interactions.
Upon ligand binding of the TGF-beta superfamily (including TGF-beta and BMP) to its receptor, phosphorylation of Smad1, 2, 3, 5, and 8 occurs, leading to heterotrimerization with Smad4 and nuclear translocation.
Smad4 acts as a tumor suppressor by regulating genes such as Cyclin D1 (downregulation) and collagen (upregulation), inhibiting cell proliferation. Dephosphorylation controls nuclear export and Smad dynamics.
