Podocalyxin은 sialomucin 단백질 계열에 속하는 단백질로, 사구체 podocyte의 주요 구성 요소로 알려져 있습니다. Podocyte는 사구체 기저막 외측을 덮는 고도로 분화된 상피세포로, 세포 간 발돌기 구조를 형성합니다.
이 단백질은 Na⁺/H⁺ exchanger regulatory factor와 결합하여 세포골격 요소와 상호작용하며, 조혈세포 분화 및 혈관 내피세포에서의 발현에 관여하고 L-selectin과 결합하는 역할을 합니다.
