Target Information
CCR2 (C-C chemokine receptor type 2) is a key regulator of monocyte and macrophage trafficking and is upregulated during inflammation. Polymorphisms in CCR2 have been associated with resistance to HIV-1 infection and delayed progression to AIDS. Its ligand, MCP-1 (Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1), is produced by endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and macrophages, mediating monocyte activation and infiltration in inflammatory disorders such as atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and tumor infiltration.
CCR2 is expressed in multiple tissues, including blood, brain, heart, kidney, liver, lung, ovary, pancreas, spinal cord, spleen, thymus, and vessels. Increased expression has been observed in CD3+ lymphocytes in rheumatoid arthritis. ESTs have been isolated from liver/spleen and prostate libraries.
