Target Information
Serum albumin is a globular unglycosylated protein (~65 kDa) and the main protein of plasma. It has strong binding capacity for water, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and drugs. Its primary function is the regulation of colloidal osmotic pressure in blood. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage to produce the secreted albumin.
