Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation.
Activated by various growth factors, cytokines, and membrane-dependent depolarization with calcium influx.
Phosphorylation at serine 218 and 222 by Raf1 activates MEK1.
Involved in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation.
Mutations in the gene can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
