Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation.
It acts as an endogenous pyrogen capable of inducing fever in autoimmune or infectious conditions.
IL-6 is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into the serum, and mediates inflammatory responses through the interleukin 6 receptor alpha.
Elevated IL-6 levels are associated with various inflammatory diseases, including diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 infection).
