Target Information
Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and play roles in transcriptional activation or repression. ZKSCAN5 (also known as ZFP95) is a member of the Krüppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. It is an 839 amino acid nuclear protein with thirteen C2H2-type zinc fingers, one KRAB A domain, and one SCAN box domain. ZKSCAN5 is highly expressed in testis and at lower levels in liver, kidney, brain, striated muscle, lung, and heart. KRAB A box-containing proteins often act as transcription repressors, suggesting a similar function for ZKSCAN5. Three transcripts exist due to alternative splicing, with one being testis-specific. The mouse homolog is differentially expressed during spermatogenesis.
