Target Information

Thymidine Kinase 1 (TK1) is a highly conserved phosphotransferase present in most living cells. It catalyzes the phosphorylation of deoxythymidine to deoxythymidine 5'-phosphate, an essential step in DNA synthesis. TK1 is involved in the mechanism of antiviral drugs such as AZT and is used in hybridoma selection for monoclonal antibody production. Clinically, TK1 serves as a marker for cell proliferation, being expressed primarily during cell division.
