Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme present within the matrix of all peroxisomes. It catalyzes the dismutation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Human catalase includes the last four amino acids (-KANL) at the C-terminus for peroxisome targeting. The monomer of human catalase is approximately 61.3 kDa. Catalase plays key roles in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor progression. Loss of catalase leads to acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
