Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits. Two rings are composed of seven alpha subunits and two rings are composed of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides. The PSMA2 gene encodes a 20S core alpha subunit belonging to the peptidase T1A family.
