Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) family. PPARs are nuclear hormone receptors that bind peroxisome proliferators and regulate peroxisome production in cells. These receptors are involved in various biological processes and may play roles in chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, and cancer. PPAR delta acts as an inhibitor of ligand-induced transcription activity of PPAR alpha and gamma, integrating transcription repression and nuclear receptor signaling. Elevated expression is observed in colorectal cancer cells and can be repressed by the tumor suppressor APC. Mouse knockout studies suggest roles in myelination, lipid metabolism, and epidermal cell proliferation.
