Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 is a member of the type II keratin family located on chromosome 12. Type I and type II keratins form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 8 typically dimerizes with keratin 18 in simple epithelial cells, contributing to structural integrity, signal transduction, and differentiation. Mutations in this gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
