Specificity: SERCA1.
Target Information
ATP-dependent calcium pumps maintain low cytoplasmic free calcium concentrations. The pumps in intracellular organelles are encoded by the sarcoplasmic or endoplasmic reticulum calcium (SERCA) ATPase family.
- SERCA1: Expressed exclusively in type II (fast) skeletal muscle.
- SERCA2: Tissue-dependent processing generates muscle-specific SERCA2a (type I, cardiac, smooth muscle) and SERCA2b (ubiquitous).
- SERCA3: Found in non-muscle cells, less characterized.
