Target Information
The LAMB3 gene encodes a laminin that is part of the basement membrane protein family. Laminin beta-3 subunit forms laminin-5 along with alpha and gamma subunits. Mutations in this gene are associated with epidermolysis bullosa junctional Herlitz type and generalized atrophic benign epidermolysis bullosa, both causing skin blistering. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
