The antibody detects endogenous levels of total BAAT protein.
Target Information
The BAAT gene encodes a liver enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of C24 bile acids from the acyl-CoA thioester to glycine or taurine, the second step in bile acid–amino acid conjugate formation. These conjugates act as detergents in the gastrointestinal tract, enhancing absorption of lipids and fat-soluble vitamins. Mutations in this gene can cause familial hypercholanemia (FHCA). Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
