Target Information
SOX17 (transcription factor SOX-17) belongs to the SRY-related HMG box family of transcription factors.
It acts as a transcription regulator that binds and bends target promoter DNA, recognizing sequences 5'-AACAAT-3' or 5'-AACAAAG-3'.
SOX17 modulates transcriptional regulation via WNT3A, inhibits Wnt signaling, and promotes degradation of activated CTNNB1.
It plays a crucial role in embryonic development, including heart tube looping and definitive gut endoderm formation.
Mutations in the gene can cause vesicoureteral reflux.
