Target Information

TAOK2 (TAO1) is a serine/threonine kinase that may regulate the stress-responsive p38 MAP kinase pathway. In vitro, TAO2 activates MAP/ERK kinases (MEK) 3, 4, and 6 toward their substrates p38 MAP kinase JNK/SAPK (Chen et al., 1999; Chen and Cobb, 2001). Research suggests TAO kinases play an essential role in signaling from physiological agonists to the p38 MAPK pathway (Chen et al., 2003). Autophosphorylation of TAO may be involved in its activation mechanism, with Ser181 located within the MEK binding domain.
