Target Information
POT1 is a component of the telomerase ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex essential for the replication of chromosome termini. It forms part of the double-stranded telomeric DNA-binding TRF1 complex, which regulates telomere length by cis-inhibition of telomerase. POT1 also binds single-stranded telomeric DNA and acts as a downstream effector of the TRF1 complex, transducing information about telomere maintenance and/or length to the telomere terminus. It binds to telomeric single-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeats with high specificity to the 5'-TAGGGTTAG-3' sequence. Its activity is TERT-dependent but does not increase TERT activity.
