Sprouty 2 단백질은 sprouty family에 속하며, receptor tyrosine kinase 신호 단백질의 억제 활성에 필수적인 carboxyl-terminal cysteine-rich domain을 포함합니다. 성장 인자 자극 시 막 돌출부로의 단백질 이동에 필요하며, fibroblast growth factor 2(FGF2)에 반응하여 일시적으로 발현됩니다. 또한 Cas-Br-M retroviral transforming sequence와 상호작용하며, EGFR/MAPK 신호를 이중 조절하는 역할을 합니다. 폐 발달 과정에서 alveoli branching에도 관여할 수 있습니다.
