Target Information
SEC24B is a component of the coat protein complex II (COPII), which facilitates the formation of transport vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The COPII coat performs two primary functions:
- Physical deformation of the ER membrane into vesicles
- Selection of cargo molecules for transport to the Golgi complex
SEC24B plays a central role in cargo selection within the COPII complex. Together with SEC24A, it may display different specificity compared to SEC24C and SEC24D. It may preferentially package cargos with cytoplasmic DxE or LxxLE motifs and recognize conformational epitopes.
