Target Information

Damaged DNA binding protein (DDB) is a heterodimer composed of two subunits, p127 and p48, designated DDB1 and DDB2, respectively.
The DDB heterodimer participates in repairing DNA damaged by ultraviolet light. Specifically, DDB (also known as UV-DDB, XPE-BF, and XAP-1) binds to damaged cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs).
Mutations in the DDB2 gene can cause xeroderma pigmentosum group E (XPE), an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by defective nucleotide excision DNA repair, hypersensitivity to sunlight, and increased skin cancer risk.
The hepatitis B virus X protein interacts with DDB1, potentially mediating HBx transactivation.
