TOM1L2 유전자는 작은 유전자 패밀리에 속하며, N-terminal VHS 도메인과 GAT 도메인을 가지고 있어 소포 이동(vesicular trafficking)에 관여합니다. Canonical 단백질은 C-terminal clathrin 결합 모티프를 포함하며 Tollip, clathrin, ubiquitin과 상호작용하여 엔도좀 정렬(endosomal sorting)에 역할을 합니다.
이 유전자는 Smith-Magenis 증후군과 관련된 염색체 영역 17p11.2의 3.7 Mb 결실 부위에 위치하며, 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 단백질 변형체를 생성합니다.
