Target Information
Estrogen Receptor beta (ERβ, NR3A2) is a member of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. The protein is approximately 55 kDa, with multiple isoforms ranging from 36–59 kDa. ERβ was initially cloned from human testis and is widely expressed across various tissues. It functions as a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds to estrogen response elements (EREs) in DNA, regulating gene transcription through coactivators or corepressors.
ERβ binds estrogens with an affinity similar to ERα, and certain isoforms can inhibit ERα activity in reproductive tissues. It acts as a tumor suppressor and is implicated in diseases such as prostate cancer, autism spectrum disorder, medullary thyroid carcinoma, De Quervain disease, and cardiovascular disorders.
