O6-Methylguanine-DNA Methyltransferase (MGMT)는 항암 알킬화제의 세포독성 작용에 대한 종양 세포의 내성에 관여하는 중요한 DNA 복구 단백질입니다. 또한 DNA 알킬화로 인한 유전독성 및 발암 효과로부터 정상 세포를 보호하는 역할을 합니다. MGMT는 구아닌의 O6 위치에 도입된 알킬기를 제거함으로써 알킬화 약물 내성을 유발합니다. MGMT의 발현 수준은 세포 및 조직 유형, 종, 세포 성장 특성에 따라 다양하며, 종양 간 및 동일 종양 내에서도 활성에 차이가 존재합니다.
