This gene is a member of the MAGEA gene family, encoding proteins with 50–80% sequence identity. The promoters and first exons of MAGEA genes vary, allowing similar functions under different transcriptional controls. MAGEA genes are located at chromosomal region Xq28 and have been associated with hereditary disorders such as dyskeratosis congenita.
