HLA-G는 HLA class I heavy chain paralogue에 속하며, heavy chain과 beta-2 microglobulin으로 구성된 이종이합체입니다. Heavy chain은 막에 고정되어 있으며, 태아 유래 태반 세포에서 발현됩니다.
Heavy chain은 약 45 kDa이며, 8개의 엑손을 포함합니다.

- Exon 2, 3: alpha1 및 alpha2 domain (peptide 결합 부위)
- Exon 4: alpha3 domain
- Exon 5: transmembrane region
