Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T-cell specific surface glycoprotein. It is a cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily, constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 serves as a critical costimulatory receptor, providing the second activation signal by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. It prevents T cells from entering an anergic state or premature apoptosis. In murine models, CD28 is expressed on all CD4⁺ and CD8⁺ T cells in peripheral lymphoid organs and blood. Expression varies during thymocyte maturation stages. Dysregulation of CD28 is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
