Target Information
MLC1 may function as a transporter or a non-selective neuronal cation channel. Although its exact function is unknown, homology to other proteins suggests it may act as an integral membrane transporter. Mutations in this gene are associated with megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts, an autosomal recessive neurological disorder. Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
