Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven distinct subfamilies. This protein is part of the MRP subfamily, associated with multi-drug resistance. It modulates ATP-sensitive potassium channels and insulin release. Mutations or deficiencies are linked to hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia of infancy and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus type II. Alternative splicing has been observed, though transcript variants are not fully described.
