Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cofactor required by pancreatic lipase for efficient dietary lipid hydrolysis. It binds to the C-terminal, non-catalytic domain of lipase, stabilizing the active conformation and enhancing hydrophobic binding. The gene product allows lipase to anchor noncovalently to lipid micelles, counteracting bile salt destabilization. Expression occurs specifically in pancreatic acinar cells, with three transcript variants encoding different isoforms identified.
