Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of actin-related proteins that share significant sequence identity with conventional actins. Both actins and ARPs possess an actin fold featuring an ATP-binding cleft. ARPs participate in various cellular processes, including vesicular transport, spindle orientation, nuclear migration, and chromatin remodeling.
ACTL7B and ACTL7A are intronless genes located approximately 4 kb apart in a head-to-head orientation on chromosome 9q31, within the familial dysautonomia candidate region. Mutational analysis suggests ACTL7B is unlikely to be involved in dysautonomia pathogenesis. Unlike ACTL7A, ACTL7B is predominantly expressed in the testis, though its precise function remains unknown.
